I have been walking with a friend around our neighborhood since last fall. We started off walking a couple of miles but quickly decided we needed to challenge ourselves. Two miles soon turned into four. We kept adding to our route. Now we walk six miles on a regular basis and even recently expanded it to eight.
My weight has gone up and down over the years, but I’ve always enjoyed walking. What’s not to like? You can walk anytime, anywhere. It not only improves your physical health but also can help your mental health. It’s hard to stay down in the dumps if you’re sharing that time with a friend or just enjoying God’s beautiful handiwork.
Walking is a treat for yourself, but the first step is often the hardest.Western Baptist Hospital provides a great way to get started. The hospital will host a Start! Walking Day from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, on the hospital’s outdoor, one-mile walking trail. The public is invited to walk the trail, starting at the entrance of the Baptist Heart Center. Phone (270) 575-2895 for more information.
Signs mark the trail around the hospital year round, so it’s the perfect place to start a walking program, according to Bonnie Bullard (pictured right). Walking for 30 minutes a day can help manage weight and offers many other health benefits. Please join us on April 11 to get started!
In the coming weeks, I can’t wait to share with you more of the hospital’s upcoming events, not to mention all the latest health news. Check back here each Friday because you don’t want to miss out! Our Web site at westernbaptist.com also is a valuable source of information, and you will be the first to know our news if you “like” our Facebook page at facebook.com/westernbaptist.
